The 2011 Hunter x Hunter anime is a complete reboot of the story, produced by Madhouse and directed by Hiroshi Kōjina. Unlike many long-running shōnen adaptations that rely on filler arcs, this version is celebrated for its brisk pacing and faithful adherence to Yoshihiro Togashi's original manga. It begins with Gon Freecss leaving Whale Island to take the Hunter Exam and covers several major story arcs, including the critically acclaimed Chimera Ant arc, over its 148-episode run.
This series is the second anime adaptation of the manga, following the 1999 version by Nippon Animation and its subsequent OVA sequels. The 2011 reboot was created without any narrative connection to the earlier adaptation, starting fresh from the manga's first chapter. The animation quality, darker tone in later arcs, and complete coverage of the Election arc made it the definitive adaptation for many fans, introducing the series to a new generation worldwide.
