009-1 is a Japanese science fiction manga series written and illustrated by Shotaro Ishinomori. It was first serialized in 1967 in Weekly Manga Action magazine. The story is set during the Cold War and follows Mylene Hoffman, a female cyborg secret agent codenamed 009-1, who works for a Western Bloc intelligence organization. She undertakes dangerous espionage missions involving enemy agents, advanced technology, and political intrigue.
The manga is notable for its blend of spy thriller tropes with cyberpunk and sci-fi elements, featuring a strong female protagonist in an era when such characters were rare in Japanese comics.
