Stargate Origins is a 2018 web miniseries that serves as a prequel to the entire Stargate franchise, taking viewers back to a time long before the events of the 1994 feature film. Set in 1939, the story centers on a young Catherine Langford, a character fans will recognize as the elderly woman who witnessed the Stargate's first modern activation in the original movie. The series follows her daring quest to unlock the secrets of the mysterious artifact in a desperate attempt to rescue her father, Professor Paul Langford, from Nazi captors.
Created by Mark Ilvedson and Justin Michael Terry, the series was announced at San Diego Comic-Con in 2017 as part of the 20th-anniversary celebration of Stargate SG-1. It was produced as a flagship original for MGM's now-defunct Stargate Command streaming platform. The format was experimental, consisting of ten short episodes of roughly ten minutes each, which were later edited together into a feature-length cut titled Stargate Origins: Catherine for digital release.
