Aashiqui

The Aashiqui duology is a series of Indian Hindi-language musical romantic drama films produced by T-Series. The first film, Aashiqui (1990), directed by Mahesh Bhatt, launched the careers of music duo Nadeem–Shravan and singer Kumar Sanu, and its soundtrack became one of the best-selling Bollywood albums of all time. The film tells the story of two young lovers who escape their oppressive circumstances and find solace in each other, with music serving as a central emotional backdrop.

Over two decades later, Aashiqui 2 (2013), directed by Mohit Suri, was released as a spiritual successor rather than a direct sequel. It follows a failing singer, Rahul, who discovers and mentors a talented young woman, Aarohi, but his own demons—alcoholism and a volatile temper—threaten their relationship and careers. The film is an adaptation of the classic Hollywood story A Star Is Born and was a major commercial and critical success, further cementing the brand's association with poignant love stories and memorable music.

Both films are united by their emphasis on music as a narrative device, the theme of love tested by personal and professional struggles, and their status as landmark projects for their respective eras. The 1990 film revolutionized the Indian music industry by demonstrating the power of a hit soundtrack, while the 2013 film revitalized the romantic musical genre for a new generation.
