About this title
The Mummy: The Animated Series

The Mummy: The Animated Series is an American animated television series produced by Universal Cartoon Studios that premiered on Kids' WB on September 29, 2001. The show is a direct continuation of the 1999 live-action blockbuster The Mummy and its 2001 sequel The Mummy Returns, following the further adventures of the O'Connell family. Set in 1938, the series picks up with Rick and Evelyn O'Connell and their twelve-year-old son Alex as they are pursued across the globe by the resurrected high priest Imhotep, who seeks to obtain the powerful Manacle of Osiris that has become magically bonded to Alex's wrist.

The series featured Chris Marquette as the voice of Alex O'Connell, with the character taking a more central role than in the films. The first season focused on the family's globe-trotting quest to find the lost scrolls of Thebes, the only artifacts capable of removing the manacle from Alex, while simultaneously preventing Imhotep from claiming its power. The show was retooled for its second season, which began airing in February 2003 under the new title The Mummy: Secrets of the Medjai, shifting focus to Alex's training as a Medjai warrior to combat the mummy and other supernatural threats.

The animated series expanded the mythology established in the films, introducing new characters, locations, and artifacts while maintaining the adventurous tone and supernatural elements that made the franchise popular. Despite its connection to a major film property, the series ran for only two seasons before being cancelled in June 2003, with reruns continuing on Kids' WB for a short period afterward. The show represents one of several attempts by Universal to extend the Mummy franchise beyond live-action cinema, alongside video games, comic books, and the Scorpion King spin-off films.
