About this title
Godzilla: The Series

Godzilla: The Series is an American animated television series that aired on Fox Kids from 1998 to 2000. Developed by Jeff Kline and Richard Raynis, it serves as a direct sequel to the 1998 film Godzilla, picking up after the events of the movie. The series follows Dr. Nick Tatopoulos and his team, the Humanitarian Environmental Analysis Team (HEAT), as they encounter a surviving egg that hatches into a new Godzilla. This Godzilla imprints on Nick and becomes an ally, helping the team battle various giant mutant monsters that appear around the world.

The show significantly reimagined the Godzilla character from the film, making him more heroic and intelligent, and gave him a more traditional design with dorsal fins and atomic breath, addressing fan criticisms of the 1998 movie's creature. The series ran for two seasons with a total of 40 episodes, and featured the voices of Ian Ziering, Malcolm Danare, and Kevin Dunn, among others. It was well-received by fans for its action and monster battles, and is considered a more faithful take on the Godzilla mythos than its film predecessor.

Despite its relatively short run, Godzilla: The Series developed a cult following and is remembered as a successful expansion of the 1998 film's universe. It also included tie-ins with other Toho monsters, though the rights limited direct appearances. The series remains a notable example of an animated sequel that improved upon its source material.
