Star Trek is an American science fiction media franchise created by Gene Roddenberry in 1966. It began with a television series that followed the adventures of the starship USS Enterprise and its crew, led by Captain James T. Kirk, in the 23rd century. The franchise is built on Roddenberry's vision of a hopeful future where humanity has overcome its internal divisions and joined with other alien civilizations in the United Federation of Planets to explore the galaxy.
