Hal Jordan

Hal Jordan is a fictional superhero appearing in American comic books published by DC Comics. Created by writer John Broome and artist Gil Kane, the character first appeared in Showcase #22 in October 1959. He is the second character to bear the mantle of Green Lantern, a reinvention of the original 1940s hero Alan Scott. Hal Jordan is a fearless test pilot who is chosen by a dying alien, Abin Sur, to join the Green Lantern Corps, an intergalactic police force overseen by the ancient Guardians of the Universe. Armed with a power ring that can create constructs limited only by his willpower and imagination, he protects Sector 2814, which includes Earth.

As a core member of the Justice League, Hal Jordan has been central to some of DC Comics' most significant storylines. His narrative explores themes of courage, fear, and the corrupting nature of absolute power, most famously in the "Emerald Twilight" arc where he becomes the villain Parallax. His complex relationship with his mentor Sinestro, who becomes his archenemy, is a defining element of the Green Lantern mythos. The character's rich history and expansive cosmic setting have made him a cornerstone of DC's universe, inspiring numerous adaptations across various media.
