Don (1978 film)

'Don' is a 1978 Indian Hindi-language action thriller written by Salim-Javed (Salim Khan and Javed Akhtar) and directed by Chandra Barot for Nariman Films, starring Amitabh Bachchan in a dual role as the crime boss Don and his lookalike Vijay. The film underperformed on initial release but became a major commercial success after re-release and generated two Hindi remakes — Rajiv Rai's 'Don' (remake in 2006) with Shah Rukh Khan was produced by Ritesh Sidhwani and Farhan Akhtar, with a 2011 sequel 'Don 2' — as well as multiple South Indian remakes including the Tamil 'Billa' (1980) and its 2007 remake.
