Barb Wire is a fictional character created by Chris Warner and the creative team behind the Comics' Greatest World imprint of Dark Horse Comics. The character made her debut in Comics' Greatest World: Steel Harbor #1 in 1993, with the subsequent ongoing series written primarily by John Arcudi and illustrated by Lee Moder. Set in an alternate version of the present day, the comics explore a world altered by the arrival of a mysterious alien entity known as the Vortex in 1931. A 1947 atomic bomb test near the entity's experiments opened a trans-dimensional wormhole, releasing energy that granted superpowers to various individuals and fundamentally changed society.
